Larry Evilelf

LarryNewPicBack in the mid 80’s after Black & Blue was created as a new record label for GG Allin and the plan was to expand and be a real label it was obvious that Peter Yarmouth could not do things alone. So he turned to his long standing friend Larry Evilelf to join him in running the company.

Larry got involved when he and Peter attended a Platnium Music Seminar Peter was invited to. Larry met John Radcliffe of the metal band Northwinds there and took a copy of their demo tape. Larry really liked them and he convinced Yarmouth to sign them and he ended up as the producer for the Sleep With Evil album. From there Peter tabbed Larry to work with Bloody Mess & The Skabs on their debut album 6th Grade Field Trip and produced it. From there Larry became “The Voice” for the Black & Blue compilations with the first being “Music To Make Your Ears Hurt” where the first “Elf Talk” appeared. He also was the voice most often heard on the greetings for the infamous Black & Blue Answering machine.

Larry met GG only once at the infamous Populus Pudding show in the dressing room before the show. He had seen GG per form a few times before that but never met him.

Larry became very close to Algae Afterbirth and began booking all the shows for his band and booked a lot of shows for acts on the label including Peter’s pet project The Cedar Street Sluts.

LarryEvilelfPerhaps the most interesting story was that Larry was responsible for the first international act on the label. Larry corresponded with Philippe Beau manager of the UK band GG Goose (guh guh goose). Mick Horgun was with Peter and Larry the day he got the demo tape from Beau. Larry was excited and insisted everyone in the office listen to the song “Spider Girl” which was kind of disco. Peter dismissed it saying “We are not a Disco Label!” Horgun said “Tell them to change their name to Blue Nouveaux and we will sign them” Yarmouth told Larry that Mick was right thinking the band would never agree to it. So Larry told Beau and somehow he convinced them to do it or perhaps Beau convinced the band but they did take on the name. That is the truth on how Blue Nouveaux was born.

Mr Beau (originally from France living in FL) came up to RI to meet Larry and Peter to finalize the signing. When Celia Hemken (the primary talent/sondwrtier of Blue Nouveaux) arrived in the USA for the first time to tour supporting Darkness In Me, Larry was one of the first to meet her. Larry assisted Peter in booking the tour. After that tour concluded Larry began to produce the new recordings at Danger Studios in Providence. After those recordings were completed Yarmouth and the band had a falling out by not being able to compromise on a contract and it seemed like a dead project.

After a few years things came around and all was well with Yarmouth and the band. Sadly before that occurred Larry passed away from a unexpected heart attack.

Blue Nouveaux recorded additional material during the split and when Yarmouth and Celia were resolved to finally work together again it truly was no longer a pure Larry project. The happy ending is that the final recording project Larry touched has finally seen the light of day with the release of 10 Years After and Temple.

While Larry is gone he lives on forever at Black & Blue as the voice of the label.
